Blog EntryClockwise or Counter-Clockwise? You Tell Me...Nov 9, '07 2:03 AM
for everyone

If you see this picture moving CLOCKWISE, that means you're using the RIGHT PART of your brain more; that which governs intuitive, holistic, and random processes and is more visual and creative. You see the whole picture first then focus on the details after.

If you see the woman rotating COUNTER-CLOCKWISE, that means you're more LEFT-BRAINED: logical, analytical, and sequential. You tend to see the details first, then put them together to form a bigger picture.

The first time I saw this image, it was turning counter-clockwise and it lasted for a few seconds then shifted to a clockwise rotation.  This is so baffling. I thought it was a hoax 'coz it kept shifting from my point of view. But the ultimate test is to have another person view it with you simultaneously. I tried it with my wife and we kept viewing it differently.  I guess that only goes to show that  we complement each other in our way of thinking.

I guess it doesn't matter which hemisphere of the brain you're using....only one conclusion remains...you're green minded! - LOL

Most of the time I see this image turning clockwise. I tried different techniques to shift my perspective but I can't seem to have a constant way of shifting my POV.

I finally found a way to convince my mind to view it in the direction I want it to go. What I do is to view the raised leg as a "left leg" if I want to make the woman turn counter-clockwise and I try to view it as a "right leg" to make it seem like she's moving clockwise.

okay. that was bizzare. when the photo first loaded, the girl was turning clockwise. when the screen shifted when the rest of the gif loaded - and the girl started to turn the other way. after a while, though, she starts to skip every few turns and shifts legs... then starts to turn the other way.

THEN I read your post. haha. yeah. I guess that means we both sides of our brains. :)

It may seem like the animation is shifting directions but it's purely an optical illusion. =)

she starts counter, shifts to clockwise, goes back to counter. then back again to clockwise. keeps on shifting. interesting and very cool... i'm dizzy.! is she on your turntable? lol.

Yeah...you end up getting a headache trying to figure how this illusion works. But once you get the technique of controlling the way your brain sees it...it becomes quite satisfying.

yep. optical illusion. the trick would be to imagine her shifting legs as she hits full frontal. btw, i just noticed: she's naked.

Well...that goes to show that your way of thinking is far less polluted than the first person who left a comment on this page! - LOL

I guess that the creative area of your brain works dominantly. =)
